RRC Students Produce Live Humane Society Telethon

March 14, 2012 8:35 AM CDT | News

Red River College students will put the skills they’ve learned in the Creative Communications program to good use on Sunday when they produce a live telethon to benefit the Winnipeg Humane Society.

The IAMS 1001 Donations telethon and radiothon will air live on Shaw TV, Hot 103 and QX 104 to bring in donations, which go to fund the many services the WHS provides to animals in its shelter.

The students will be working behind the camera, as on-air talent and the technical crew using the skills taught in the RRC program.

“Our students are extremely talented and this telethon will give them a well-deserved opportunity to showcase those talents and help a great cause at the same time,” said Joanne Kelly, former Shaw TV personality-turned-Creative Communications instructor. “We are always looking for opportunities for the students to gain real-life experience so they will be that much more prepared for the work-force upon graduation. And this telethon also helps teach them the value of being connected to your community, and how important it is to give back.”

The telethon/radiothon will air from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 18. Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so in-person at 45 Hurst Way, at WinnipegHumaneSociety.ca or via phone by following the call-in instructions on Shaw TV.
