Four friends who started biking from Victoria to Halifax will be stopping in Winnipeg on Friday, June 4.
Ian Bevis, Jeff Belanger, Ben Miller and Brenton Seamone — also known as “The Tandem Tour” — started their trek on May 5 and are nearing the halfway point on their 6,185 km fundraising journey.
The foursome is riding on a customized bike and are each raising money for their own preferred charity.
Ian Bevis is riding to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis. “I am riding in memory of my close friend Eva Markvoort, who passed away last month after batting Cystic Fibrosis her entire life,” Bevis said. “I want to raise awareness about her life, this disease and organ donation.”
Jeff Belanger is riding for the Canadian Diabetes Association, after his brother was diagnosed with type 1 insulin dependent diabetes at the age of 24.
Ben Miller is riding for Friends of Redtail, a non-profit organization based out of Nova Scotia that helps stop the clear-cutting of forests in and around the Redtail Nature Awareness Camp.
Brenton Seamone is riding for the Multiple Sclerosis Society after his mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis over 15 years ago. “Like Jeff and Ian we are riding to raise money to find a cure as well as to recognize the people in our lives who struggle day to day with these life threatening diseases,” Seamone said.
The group averages between 100 and 150 km per day and should complete their journey by the beginning of July. To help support their individual causes, head down to The Forks’ Atrium between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Friday to make a donation. For $20 you’ll get a burger, beer, live entertainment and a chance to win silent auction prizes.
