June 14, 2010 9:16 AM | News

An early-morning crash between an eastbound travelling garbage truck and a southbound CP train derailed 12 train cars on Monday.

Watch:

The collision happened south of Winnipeg two miles east of St. Mary’s Road (Highway 200) on Leclaire Road in the RM of Ritchot at about 7 a.m.

The 43-year-old driver of the truck from Oakbank was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A neighbouring home in the area was evacuated as a precaution in the event the train’s chemical load began to leak. The train was carrying sulphur and sulphuric acid at the time, but none of those cars were damaged.
