A new co-operative piece by theatrical dance artist and choreographer Tom Stroud will celebrate some of Winnipeg’s most celebrated contemporary and modern dancers/artists this week.
“The Rite” takes for its inspiration the infamously riotous 1913 premiere of The Ballet Russe’s “The Rite of Spring.” The movement-based theatrical performance funnels these forces to create a fluid and arresting world populated by five people caught between primal violence and peace, illusion and reality, and freedom and imprisonment.
The Rite runs from September 15-18 at the Gas Station Theatre. Show times are nightly at 8 p.m., with a matinée on Saturday the 18th at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $20, or $15 for the matinée. Order by phone at 284-9477 or in person at the Gas Station Arts Centre.
