University of Winnipeg president and vice-chancellor Lloyd Axworthy will receive an honourary doctorate during a visit to Ukraine next week.
Axworthy will receive the honour from the National Technical University of Ukraine-Kyiv Polytechnic Institute on Monday. He is being recognized for the U of W’s commitment and achievement in creating a sustainable campus that is on track to meet its goal of achieving Kyoto compliance.
“We have a long-standing and deep relationship with the Ukrainian community at home and in Ukraine, and I am honoured to be cementing stronger ties with four leading educational facilities,” Axworthy said. “This visit builds on our common beliefs — an unwavering commitment to sustainable practices, the strengthening of democratic principles and human rights, and the value of academic excellence and public service.”
Axworthy will give three keynote addresses on human rights while in the country.
