The Winnipeg Humane Society is holding an event as an alternative to this year’s Manitoba Pork Council annual general meeting.
Take Back Manitoba From Factory Farming is being hosted by the WHS’ Farm Animal Compassion Committee on Wednesday, April 16. The family-friendly evening at the Park Theatre will connect voices from sustainable pig farming to consumers and animal advocates, who together are striving for a better, more humane Manitoba.
“This evening importantly demonstrates the growing public concern for Manitoba’s farmed pigs, especially sows who are caged for their entire adult lives in stalls no bigger than their own bodies,” said Dr. Dana Medoro, chair of the WHS Farm Animal Compassion Committee. “Consumers are reaching out for healthy and sustainable alternatives to factory farmed meat.”
Those who attend will hear from four speakers and have the opportunity to enter a silent auction and win door prizes. There will also be a bake sale, and WHS Farm Animal T-shirts for purchase, with all proceeds going to the WHS Farm Animal campaigns.
Tickets are $10 online or through the Winnipeg Humane Society. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
