Manitoba anglers will be able to cast a line in the province’s parks this weekend without a licence.

Conservation and Water Stewardship Minister Gord Mackintosh says June 14-15 will be free family fishing weekend, where park entry will also be waived.

“There are endless fishing opportunities in our province,” said Mackintosh. “I want Manitobans to go fishing and create wonderful memories with family and friends, and enjoy the beauty and bounty of our many lakes and rivers.”

Anglers fishing without a licence will be allowed to keep a conservation limit of fish, which varies by species. All other rules and regulations will apply, as outlined in the 2014 Manitoba Anglers’ Guide (PDF).

The Manitoba Wildlife Federation will also host an amateur photo contest to promote fishing as a fun family leisure activity. Photos can be e-mailed to info@mwf.mb.ca by June 16 for a chance to win prizes.
