Kildonan Place Shopping Centre is challenging shoppers to do something so unimaginable, it’s difficult to comprehend and wrap your head around the idea.

KP wants Winnipeggers to shut off their cell phones!

In an effort to reduce battery usage and celebrate a battery recycling drive, the No Battery Zone Contest challenges users to power down their devices on Wednesday, February 18 from 4-9 p.m. The first 30 contestants to register at centre court at 4 p.m. will be treated to food, board games, books and other activities in the mall.

The only caveat is you can’t turn your phone back on or look at it, otherwise you’ll be disqualified.

“This contest puts the ‘social’ back in social networking,” said KP marketing manager Corey Quintaine. “This is a great opportunity for friends to get together, play some games and get a free meal.”

MTS Kildonan Place will be giving away a new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 smartphone to one lucky contestant following the contest.

The mall will also be holding a battery recycling drive throughout the day. For every dead or expired household alkaline battery dropped off at guest services, Kildonan Place will donate a dollar to the Manitoba Eco-Network.
