A Winnipeg police officer facing dozens of theft, drug and weapons charges was killed Monday in a crash with a gravel truck.
Trent Milan, 42, was travelling eastbound on Garven Road at around 10:30 a.m. when he collided with a westbound gravel truck between Provincial Road 207 and Pine Ridge Road.
Milan, of Oakbank, Manitoba, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The man driving the gravel truck suffered minor injuries.
In September, police charged Milan with 34 offences for allegedly stealing evidence, including drugs and weapons.
At the time, Deputy Chief Danny Smyth called the revelations a “dark chapter” for the police service.
Milan was an 18-year member of the service and was currently awaiting his next court appearance in November.
RCMP are investigating the cause of Monday’s fatal crash.
