The Winnipeg Goldeyes have signed first baseman Kellen Marruffo and right-handed pitcher Caleb Kellogg to their 2017 playing roster.

Marruffo finished his college career last spring at the University of Utah and helped the Utes win the Pac-12 Conference championship, hitting .314 with three home runs, and 27 RBI in 51 games played. The Tucson, Arizona native added 23 runs, 11 doubles, and a .392 on-base percentage.

Kellogg has two years experience at the pro level in the American Association. The Lake Charles, Louisiana native last pitched in 2015 where he posted a 4.39 ERA at two levels of the Baltimore Orioles’ organization. Kellogg made 15 appearances and struck out 19 batters in a combined 26.2 innings between the Short Season-A New York-Penn League’s Aberdeen Ironbirds and the Low-A South Atlantic League’s Delmarva Shorebirds.

“Both Kellen and Caleb are classified rookies,” said Goldeyes manager Rick Forney. “With all of our 2016 rookies changing classification, we needed to fill these very important roster spots with quality players, and I feel like we are taking a step in the right direction with Kellen and Caleb.”

The Goldeyes now have seven players under contract for the 2017 season.
