CN is going on a shopping spree for qualified talent to begin 2018.
The railway company aims to hire nearly 80 conductors in Manitoba in the first quarter of next year. CN is also looking for heavy duty and diesel mechanics and mechanical supervisors in Winnipeg.
“Our recruiters are busy searching for good, talented people to fill jobs across the railway,” said Doug Ryhorchuk, vice-president of operations for CN’s Western Region.
“Whether you want a spot inside the cab of a locomotive, or a job working outside on the track, or a shift at a mechanical shop, we’ve got something for you.”
Breaking those numbers down, CN will hire 70 conductors in Winnipeg and eight in Dauphin.
CN says no previous railroad experience is required and new hires will receive six months of paid training split between CN’s national training centre in Winnipeg and field training with experienced railroaders.
By the end of 2017, CN expects to have hired 3,500 new employees across the company, with at least 2,000 more new employees expected to be brought onboard in 2018.
