An unprovoked assault Friday night sent an 18-year-old man to hospital with stab wounds.
Winnipeg police say the victim was with his family in the 1800 block of Pembina Highway at around 11:25 p.m. when a suspect appeared and ran towards the victim. He then began stabbing him several times.
Police say the man was unloading a vehicle with family members at the time, including his seven-year-old niece. The child was knocked over during the confrontation.
The victim was taken to hopsital in critical condition, but later upgraded to stable.
Police say they don’t believe the suspect and victims knew each other.
Nathaniel Sean Capay of Winnipeg, 20, was found in the 1800 block of Pembina Highway on September 1 and arrested.
He has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, assault and failing to comply with a probation order.
He remains in custody.
