Manitoba’s law enforcement community is taking the plunge for charity this weekend.

The seventh annual Polar Plunge “Freezin’ For A Reason” is Saturday and raises funds and awareness for Special Olympics.

The event is organized by the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), providing an opportunity for Winnipeg police, RCMP, corrections officers and sheriffs to take a chilly dip in a pool of water. Saturday’s high is -2°C.

This year’s plunge is at the Pinnacle Club outside Investors Group Field beginning at 1 p.m. Law enforcement plungers will be joined by members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and local Special Olympics athletes.

Similar Polar Plunges in Dauphin, Morden, and Portage la Prairie have raised over $40,000 in support of Special Olympics Manitoba this year. Those interested in participating can register online.
