Manitoba’s Progressive Conservative government would eliminate the provincial sales tax from certain salon services, if re-elected.
Rochelle Squires, MLA for Riel, made the announcement Monday on behalf of her party at a salon on Academy Road.
Squires said the PST would be scrapped on haircuts and salon services over $50.
“This tax benefit is one more way we are making life more affordable, particularly for women,” said Squires.
“This tax grab by the NDP was discriminatory because it mainly affected the services women use, while most men’s haircuts are less than the $50 threshold that was in place.”
The tax credit would extend to manicures, pedicures, hair colouring, styling and shaving.
The Tories said it would save Manitobans approximately $7 million annually.
