Winnipeg police say a woman has died after her vehicle collided with a semi-truck trailer on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. at CentrePort Canada Way and the Perimeter Highway when RCMP attempted a traffic stop.

An RCMP officer had clocked a Honda Civic travelling at 107 km/h in a 70 km/h zone and activated emergency equipment to try and get the driver to pull over.

Police say the driver failed to stop and increased her speed, where she ran a red light at westbound CentrePort Canada Way and Sturgeon Road, rear-ending a semi.

The 26-year-old Winnipeg woman was transported to Health Sciences Centre, where she was pronounced deceased.

The Independent Investigation Unit is overseeing the investigation.
