A 27-year-old man from the RM of St. Clements was seriously injured after his car struck a semi truck at Deacon’s Corner on Sunday night.

Manitoba RCMP were called to the crash at 9:38 p.m. at Provincial Road 207 near Highway 1. Investigators say a semi truck was turning south onto PR 207 from Birkett Way when it was rear-ended by a four-door sedan.

The semi driver, a 31-year-old man from Calgary, was not hurt. The sedan driver was taken to hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to stable with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP say the sedan was unregistered, had no driving lights on, and that speed and alcohol are believed to have contributed to the crash. A forensic collision reconstructionist is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
