Two people are facing theft charges after a shoplifting spree in Portage la Prairie that also netted them a set of keys to a vehicle from a local auto dealership.

RCMP received a report at approximately 4:35 p.m. on April 30 that about $1,200 worth of clothing, shoes, and auto parts had been stolen from two businesses on Sissons Drive.

Officers located a man and woman matching the suspect descriptions nearby, walking west toward another store, and arrested them inside a business on Saskatchewan Avenue West with stolen items still in hand. Police say the male suspect was wearing a sweater with the security tag and price tag still attached.

A search of the male turned up a set of car keys on a local dealership’s keychain. Investigators determined the pair had visited the dealership earlier that day, taken a vehicle for a test drive, and then lifted the keys from a desk after returning with the salesperson.

Lisa Klassen, 44, of Winnipeg, and Nicolas Hudson, 47, of St. Eustache, have been charged with multiple offences.

Both were held in custody overnight pending a court appearance on Friday. The investigation continues.
