Selkirk has launched Tower Tap Lager, the city’s first locally developed craft beer, in collaboration with Torque Brewing.
The new lager celebrates Selkirk’s spirit and community pride with a light, refreshing taste, say officials.
“The water tower is an icon in Selkirk, and that’s why we chose it to represent Tower Tap Lager,” said Vanessa Figus, manager of citizen engagement.
Torque Brewing’s head brewer, Perry Joval, noted that this is his first experience celebrating a city’s water quality in brewing.
“It’s unique to me, I’m sure it’s been done by someone somewhere in a similar capacity, but this is our first time taking this approach,” he said.
The lager, with a sweet, pineapple-like hint from added hops, has a 4.8% alcohol content.
Selkirk’s team developed the beer during World Water Week, highlighting their award-winning water and iconic water tower. The first pint of Tower Tap Lager will be poured from the water tower tap at the local Legion on Saturday, September 7. The launch party is scheduled from 6-8 p.m.
