The WSO will present “The Phantom of the Opera (1925) in Concert” on October 29 at the Burton Cummings Theatre. (HANDOUT)

The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) has announced that tickets are now on sale for a special performance of “The Phantom of the Opera (1925) in Concert.”

The one-night performance will feature a live orchestral accompaniment to the iconic silent film, with composer Roy Budd’s haunting score performed by the WSO. Conducted by RBC Assistant Conductor Monica Chen, the concert is set to take place on Tuesday, October 29 at the Burton Cummings Theatre.

The Phantom of the Opera, directed by Rupert Julian and starring Lon Chaney, is considered a cinematic masterpiece and one of the most significant films of the silent era. The film follows the eerie and tragic love story of the phantom and young singer Christine in the Paris Opera House, a tale that has captivated audiences for nearly a century. This screening will feature a restoration of the classic, including its famous Technicolor sequence, offering a unique opportunity to experience the film as it was originally envisioned.

Limited tickets are available at wso.ca or by contacting the WSO box office at (204) 949-3999 or boxoffice@wso.mb.ca.
