Man Falls Down Stairs After Being Tasered by Police: IIU

Winnipeg Police CrestA 46-year-old man is recovering with possible fractures to his neck and spine after he was Tasered by Winnipeg police and fell down a flight of stairs.

The man was agitated and threatening others when officers were called to an apartment on Agnes Street on Wednesday.

The Independent Investigation Unit says the man was armed with a hammer and resisted arrest before he was Tasered. After his fall, he spent about 12 hours in hospital before being processed on criminal charges.

The IIU will oversee the investigation, as a fractured vertebrae is considered a serious injury.

No further details will be released until the investigation is complete.
