ST. THERESA POINT, Man. — A four-year-old boy has drowned in a bay on a northern Manitoba First Nation.

Island Lake RCMP say they responded to a call from St. Theresa Point First Nation around 12:30 a.m. Monday about an unresponsive boy.

The investigation determined the child was last seen on Sunday.

Police say a ground search was done by community members and the child was found around 11:30 p.m. Sunday in a bay in the north end of the community.

He was taken to a nursing station in St. Theresa Point, but he could not be resuscitated.

An autopsy has confirmed that he drowned and police continue to investigate.
