Winnipeg police arrested a 24-year-old man after a reckless driving incident in the Exchange District early Sunday morning.
Officers spotted a red Ram 1500 pickup just after 1 a.m. doing burnouts near William Avenue and King Street before speeding the wrong way down King Street through heavy pedestrian traffic. The driver twice fled police attempts to stop him and was later tracked by Air 1 to St. Vital, where officers used a tire deflation device to disable the truck.
Despite several flat tires, the suspect rammed a police SUV before being arrested after a brief foot chase. No injuries were reported. Police believe alcohol was a factor.
The man faces charges including assaulting a peace officer, impaired driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and flight from police. He was released on an appearance notice.
