Canada Summer Games Draw to a Close as Manitoba Clinches 10th Gold

Winnipeg rolled up its welcome mat as more than 2,000 Canada Summer Games athletes, coaches and their families departed on Sunday.

The two-week competition came in two waves, with the first group of athletes arriving in late July. The closing ceremonies Sunday afternoon at Investors Group Field officially closed out the “Hottest Summer in Half of a Century.”

WINNIPEG — The second stage of the southwest rapid transitway to the University of Manitoba and Investors Group Field is now open to riders.

The first piece of the transitway connects to Pembina Highway adjacent from South Park Drive just north of Markham Road. It has been named Bohemier Trail in honour of the Bohemier family, who moved from Quebec in 1884 and settled in the area.

A bronze statue in the likeness of the late Cal Murphy will be installed at Investors Group Field to honour the former Winnipeg Blue Bomber.

Murphy, a Winnipeg native, spent more than 30 seasons in the CFL, winning nine Grey Cups over his careers, where he spent 14 seasons (1983-1996) with the Blue Bombers.

WINNIPEG – A tie is usually nothing to cheer about, but the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Edmonton Eskimos saw the positives after they played to a 38-38 finish in their final pre-season game Thursday.

In Winnipeg’s first pre-season game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on June 10, the game ended in a 25-25 tie. No overtime is played in the CFL pre-season.

“Nitro Circus Live” was originally supposed to roll out at Investors Group Field last Friday, but a rainy evening derailed plans, forcing organizers to come up with a plan B.
